Zingela River Lodge
Zingela River Lodge really is wild country. Its a hours 4x4 drive to get
here from Weenen which is the closest town. Zingela River Lodge consists
of five palatial reed and canvas accommodation units overlooking the river,
all open to the elements. Showers are more outside than in, branches provide
the towel rails and each "room" has
hefty, iron-framed beds and beautiful wooden furniture from Zanzibar.
Those
on the romance beat will love the “hitching
post” with
doubtless the world’s largest headboard, a vast, mattress-to-canvas
slab of sandstone. There’s electricity and gallons of hot water but
Zingela is essentially bush living (“don’t-forget-the-loo-roll-or-matches
kind of country,” says Linda).
Activities include hiking, fly-fishing, abseiling, white water rafting,
swimming, game-viewing and a zip line. Mark and Linda are the owners and
as delightful a couple as you can find. They have been here for over 20 years
and have built their river lodge to offer everything and
anything and all with a unique and inspiring perspective.
Zingela must be one of the most romantic venues for a wedding with a difference.
The reception can be a champagne picnic lunch on the lawn, a festive affair
in the thatched boma or tables set under the stars. Most wedding guests make
a weekend of it so it is an ideal opportunity for a celebration, which in
true Zulu tradition, lasts more than one day! The candlelit honeymoon suite
with its stunning views over the moonlit hills completes the dream. |
