Drakensberg Mountain Retreat
Mountain Retreat in the Northern Drakensberg offering tranquility
and peace and spectacular views
Drakensberg Mountain Retreat, a must visit haven in this
busy world, is perched on the crest of the KZN / Free State escarpment overlooking
the northern and central Drakensberg. The free roaming horses, freshness,
wild beauty and calming silence of the place are worth every meter of the
15km of bumpy district road which lead to the farm.
Drakensberg Mountain Retreat is low key and you are invited in this quiet
wonderfully comfortable place to take it easy, relax, put up your feet and
unwind. It is an ideal place to rest, reflect and take stock. It is
loved by those who like old fashioned holidays, peace and quiet, excellent
home cooked food and superb walks and hikes.
The less active read or play board games near the fire, indulge in a game
of croquet or snooker or just lose themselves in the ever changing views.
For the active there is - hiking , birding and mountain biking on the farm,
and nearby opportunities for horse-riding golfing and fishing – as
well as great day trips
Royal Natal National Park, Golden Gate National Park and the walk to the
top of the Amphitheatre at Sentinel Peak.
There are two comfortable, characterful accommodation venues both with indoor
gardens and pools:
-
The more up market DB&B Vergzient Lodge, is a special place
for couples to spend quality time together.Vergezient Lodge, with its
numerous lounges and fireplaces, is comfortably furnished and has an
elegant, old-fashioned feel, while maintaining that rustic farm house
charm. The lounge, dining-room and enclosed veranda
offer generous and comfortable spaces with stunning views of the Amphitheatre
and Royal Natal National Park. It is one of the best views of the Northern
Drakensberg.
Tasty and wholesome food, cooked with passion and loved by guests will
add to your experience.
-
The Zondertwyfel Barnhouse - a superb venue for groups of 10 to 24 people
- is either self catered or fully catered. It`s large function room is
ideal for small conferences, weddings, family gatherings and retreats.
The Zonderntwyfel Barnhouse offers much more than comfortable, affordable
accommodation. It`s spectacular views, vast spaces, wild winds, superb
walks and extraordinary silence, make it the perfect place to experience
the beauty and magnificence of the Drakensberg. This is a great place to
get together with friends and family and spend some time.
The comfortable Barnhouse is generously proportioned and a wood-burning stove
in the open plan kitchen / diningroom and fireplaces in the lounges ensures cosy
comfort on even the coldest days. These, together with the large verandah, flower-filled
conservatories, the indoor pool and a large function room, - all with incredible
views - ensure you will have a comfortable and enjoyable stay, regardless of
the vagaries of the weather.
- Drakensberg Mountain Retreat is a wonderful place for group retreats – it
offers spectacular views, vast spaces, wild winds, rain and sunshine, clouds
and rainbows and in all of this – silence. In this quiet place experience
yourself as peace and harmony – as love itself.
