Ardmore Guest Farm
Family accommodation in the Champagne Valley, Central Drakensberg
Ardmore Guest Farm is a relaxed, free-wheeling sort of place. Paul
is always working on something
new - a deck, a tree-house, or
moving his wife's prized cabbage tree. Ardmore is enthusiastic about their
own Zulu cotton-weaving studio, run
by Sue with the help of the local Zulu community Paul has created an on-site
museum celebrating the renowned pottery of the Ardmore Ceramic Art Studio,
which was founded here in 1985.
What makes Ardmore Guest Farm such an interesting stay is the sociable
and delicious dinners, eaten by lantern light in the yellowwood dining room,
draw on the farm’s organic produce - eggs from happy, roaming chickens
and fruit, vegetables and herbs from a pesticide-free garden.
Guests can choose between two types of en-suite accommodation,
all with fireplaces and tea/coffee making facilities. The Mountain
view cottages (1,2 or 3 bedrooms) have en suite bedrooms and a lounge with
a log fireplace and a fridge. The main bedroom has a 4 poster Queen bed,
the en-suite a wall towel heater and a separate bath & shower.
The main lodge has a guest lounge with log fireplace and stunning views
of the mountains, a dining room, T.V. room and a cosy pub with DSTV.
The Central Drakensberg is easily accessible from Ardmore and hikes to waterfalls
and mountain peaks; watch the rare bald ibis that makes
its home here; fish, canoe, mountain-bike or, if you're lucky, catch the
Drakensberg Boys’ Choir. There are many rock art sites in
this area too. The small, thatched rondavels complete with fireplaces are
sweet and cosy. Ardmore is very sociable, great
fun and really good value too. |
